Welcome to A Year in the Bible with Daily Grace bonus episode for Deuteronomy and Joshua! Throughout the year, we will provide bonus episodes to dig a little deeper into important theological concepts and themes. Today, we’re talking about God’s covenant faithfulness to the Israelites in light of passages like the battles in Canaan and the eviction of their people. Let’s discuss this together in this bonus episode. Scripture mentioned in this episode: Leviticus 18:25 Ephesians 6:12 Corrections and notes for Deuteronomy and Joshua episodes: These events happen during the Festival of Passover (Deuteronomy 16-18: 00:57) In Deuteronomy 26 and 27, Moses gives instructions for the covenant renewal ceremony that was to take place when they entered the Promised Land. (Deuteronomy 25-27: 01:49) In Deuteronomy, God gives Moses commands for a covenant renewal once inside the Promised Land. Here in Joshua 8, Joshua is faithful to those instructions. Some believe Gideon was operating without the Lord’s blessing, while others believe Gideon was doing what God had commanded. (Judges 7-9: 01:29) Scholars also disagree if Gideon’s words of denouncing kingship were humble or not. While Gideon’s actions in these verses possibly demonstrate disobedience, the text does not specifically say that Gideon turned away from the Lord.
